The metrocable is the pride of Medellin. It is a set of cable car gondolas that are integrated into the city's exemplary metro system, connecting the poorer areas on the slopes of the city to the centre. A new section of the metrocable opened a couple of weeks ago and I decided that it would make a good outing for my friend, Liz, visiting from Bogota. I am never identified as a foreigner, until I open my mouth, but Liz is blond and gets a lot of attention. In the queue for the metrocable, someone asked her if she was from Manchester. As people usually think she is American, she was quite pleased that they got the right country.
